A Energia FM serves as the successor to 97 FM, a station established in Santo André (SP) in 1983, originally focusing on rock music. In December 1994, the former 97 Rock was discontinued and rebranded as Hot Nine Seven, marking a shift towards Eurodance, a genre commonly referred to in Brazil as dance music.

In a brief attempt during 1999 to reposition itself as a popular radio station concentrating on pagode, axé, and sertanejo music, the station faced challenges in garnering audience attention and ultimately reverted to its electronic music programming. 2009 saw the introduction of a new visual identity alongside an updated logo.

Among its programming highlights, the station features the acclaimed program Estádio 97, a humorous roundtable discussion focused on football, alongside Energia na Véia, which airs from 07:00 to 10:00 and showcases electronic tracks that were popular in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

Two programs from the station have garnered the APCA Award: "Energia na Véia" in 2007 and "O Programa do Palhacinho" (Morde e Assopra) in 2011. Furthermore, the radio station organizes events such as the Spirit of London festival and the Cruzeiro do Energia na Véia.

Today, Energia FM stands out as the most listened-to youth radio station in São Paulo and is notable for being the sole representative in the rankings dedicated to dance music.
